Who We Are
Any former Golden Bear Hockey player, coach, manager, trainer of official is welcomed as a Golden Bear Hockey Alumni (GBHA) member. We currently have more than 600 active GBHA members.
We believe that once we welcome you as a Bear, you will always be a Bear. That means the GBHA will have your back and support you in any way we can while you are with the team, and into your post-Bear career as a player, community member, professional or any other role you take for the rest of your life. A Championship Tradition
The Golden Bears Hockey record of 66 national championships is the best of any North American men’s hockey championship. Our 56 Canada West Conference Championships are the most of any of our competitors.
These banners hanging with pride at The Clare Drake Arena represent decades of excellence, leadership, and commitment, setting a standard that today’s Bears continue to uphold.
Even more important than the championship banners is the Golden Bear Hockey leadership legacy.
Hockey Hall of Fame Coach Clare Drake’s impact on our program and everyone who played under him or since established the foundation for our continued success.
His focus on developing young Golden Bears not only as players but as leaders in our community continues to guide our program today. On a wall inside the Bears’ dressing room, and on the walls of the arena named after him at the U of A are these words that he was fond of saying: “It’s amazing what can get done when nobody cares who gets the credit.”
The Next Chapter
“Silent Ice.” The Bears’ home for 2026-2027.
The Golden Bears Hockey team will be playing at the Silent Ice Center | Hockey & Event Venue in Nisku, on the outskirts of Edmonton, for the 2026-27 season while upgrades are completed at the Clare Drake Arena on the University of Alberta’s North Campus.
As the team prepares for its move to Silent Ice, GBHA is building support for the Bears with our new neighbors with community outreach, ticket engagement, sponsor visibility and engagement with our GBHA members.
